Pappy George Rigoux started producing gazing globes in the 1930s with the help from a local art
glass company and finishing and selling them from his garage in Marietta, Ohio. Not long after did he realize he would have
to expand his operation and hire people to work manufacturing the unique ornaments that people seemed to admire and want
to put in their yards. After building his manufacturing plant, Marietta Silver Globe Mfg. just outside of Marietta on
state route 550, the business took off.
By the mid 60s, the founder George Rigoux passed away and the business was taken over by George's
daughter, Georgette Smith and her husband, James T. Smith Sr. James Sr. overtook operation of the business aprenticing his
only son, Jamse Jr., in the manufacturing process. For about the next 30 years, the family business thrived on adding its
unique beauty to yards and landscapes across the United States and parts of Canada.
By the time of James Sr. and Georgette's passing, the business was found as a corporation
and owned by James Jr. and his 3 sisters. Soon after, one of the sisters would sell out and leave the business to
be owned and operated by James Jr. and 2 menacing sisters. The business would find decision making hardships.
In 1998, James Jr. left operations to the 2 sisters and built a new manufacturing plant, J.T.
Smith and Sons' Glassworks, where the gazing globes would be produced by his eager sons B.J. and Justin, leaving
the once thriving Marietta Silver Globe Mfg. to fall under.
The new plant is still owned by James Jr., operated by his sons, and has been producing
and selling gazing globes for the last decade with hopes to do so for decades to come.
